Taking the RTS to JB for a massage: what is a short walk from Bukit Chagar

The nearest spa in our directory to the RTS Link's Johor Bahru station is about 200 metres from it. Once the trains are running, a trip that used to start with a queue on the Causeway could be a six to eight minute ride, a walk across a bridge, and a massage chair a few minutes after that. That is the promise. This is what is actually confirmed so far, what sits within walking distance of the station, and what to sort out before you go.

What we know about the RTS so far

Everything in this section is as reported up to 27 September 2026. The opening has moved before, so treat dates and fares as provisional until the operator publishes them.

• When it opens. The Malaysian government has said passenger service should begin in January 2027 (The Vibes, January 2026). At a media briefing in August the project director indicated 1 January 2027, but Transport Minister Anthony Loke did not confirm it (TRP, 19 August 2026).
• How long the ride takes. On that August test ride, Bukit Chagar to Woodlands North took six to eight minutes each way.
• Immigration. Singapore immigration officers are to be stationed at Bukit Chagar and Malaysian officers at Woodlands, according to The Vibes. That arrangement is expected to mean clearing both countries' checks at the station you leave from.
• Capacity. The line is designed for 10,000 passengers an hour in each direction, according to TRP.
• The walk out. An overhead bridge linking Bukit Chagar to JB Sentral and the nearby malls, including KOMTAR JBCC and Johor Bahru City Square, is already built.
• Fares and hours. Neither had been announced. Earlier reports put a one-way trip at S$5 to S$7, and we have not seen operating hours published.

What is within ten minutes on foot

Our walking times are estimates, not routes. We take the straight-line distance from each shop to Bukit Chagar station, add 30% because streets do not run straight, and assume an easy walking pace. Linkways can make the real walk quicker. The full list of places near the RTS shows every one within about half an hour, nearest first.

By that measure, 15 places we list are within about ten minutes of the station, and 12 of them are in our City Square area, the cluster around the malls the bridge connects to. The ones that stand out on Google reviews, with ratings as captured in our September 2026 data refresh:

• Lawa Lawa Spa (KOMTAR JBCC), about 4 minutes. Spa, 4.4 from 270 reviews, open 10am to 10pm daily. Books on WhatsApp.
• Thai Odyssey (KOMTAR JBCC), about 5 minutes. Thai massage, 4.4 from 235 reviews, 10am to 10pm daily. There is no WhatsApp number on our listing.
• Bangkok Thai Massage (Zenith Lifestyle Centre), about 5 minutes. Thai massage, 4.7 from 296 reviews, level with Breeze Spa as the best rated massage or spa place this close with more than a handful of reviews. Open until 2am from Monday to Thursday and until 4am from Friday to Sunday. Books on WhatsApp.
• Swan Reflexology, about 5 minutes. Foot reflexology, 4.5 from 105 reviews, 11am to 1am daily.
• Breeze Spa at Amari Johor Bahru, about 6 minutes. The spa at the Amari hotel, 4.7 from 142 reviews, 10am to 9pm daily.
• Siam Oasis (Johor Bahru City), about 9 minutes. Massage, 4.0 from 202 reviews, 10am to 10pm daily.

A few other places in the same radius carry ratings below 4 from a meaningful number of reviews. They are on the full list with their scores. We would read their recent reviews before booking.

Prices: ask, do not assume

We only quote a price when the outlet's own menu lists it for that treatment and duration. Near the station, one did when we checked. On 27 September 2026, the Fresha booking page for Lawa Lawa Spa (KOMTAR JBCC) listed foot reflexology from RM 50, with options from 30 minutes to an hour, and a one-hour combination of 45 minutes of reflexology and 15 minutes on the back and shoulders at RM 88.

Everywhere else, ask for the price of the exact treatment and duration on WhatsApp before you travel. Online menus for JB shops are often chain-wide, out of date, or both. In our own checks we have found menus attached to the wrong shop entirely.

Book before you cross

Most of these places take bookings on WhatsApp. On every RelaxJB listing that has a WhatsApp number, the Book on WhatsApp button opens a chat with the number already in +60 international format. That matters, because a Malaysian number saved in its local form will not reach the shop from a Singapore phone. Across the whole directory, 241 of the 344 places we list have a WhatsApp number on their listing.

Where a listing has no WhatsApp number, as with Thai Odyssey, Swan Reflexology and Breeze Spa above, use the phone number on the listing if there is one, or plan to walk in.

If you are going late

Two of the places above stay open past midnight: Bangkok Thai Massage at Zenith and Swan Reflexology. Sile Reflexology, about 4 minutes away, is open from noon to midnight. RTS operating hours had not been published when we wrote this, so check the time of the last train back before you book a late slot. A closing time is also not the same as a last booking, so ask what the latest start is for the treatment you want.

Who this suits

The RTS changes the maths for a short trip. A one-hour reflexology session or massage within walking distance of the station, then back the same afternoon, stops being a half-day commitment. For longer spa packages and bigger premises, the picture is the same as before: the larger, quieter premises are in Mount Austin, Austin Heights and Taman Molek, twenty-plus minutes away by Grab. The verdict

If the January 2027 date holds, the City Square cluster becomes the easiest massage trip from Singapore by a distance, and one of its two best rated places, Bangkok Thai Massage at Zenith, also stays open the latest. Until the operator publishes fares and hours, plan around it loosely. The walk from the station is the one part that is already built.
